Asbestos Land Remediation

When brownfield sites are being redeveloped and found to contain asbestos, it can cause delays to the project programme and incur additional expense.

Because of these potential problems, it is vital to plan ahead to reduce the issues that may arise from the discovery of asbestos contaminated soil or construction waste.

When working on a brownfield or unknown site, a risk assessment and thorough site survey should always be carried out before work starts. This will avoid the costly and potentially dangerous effects of cross contamination, if not identified early and allowed to spread uncontrolled during ground works. What could be a small section of contamination on the site could become a significant problem or costly delay.

Alltask can provide all the required site investigations that will identify not just asbestos, but all potential contaminants. We can then fully support your project by offering a turn key solution, from producing risk assessments and remediation strategies to safe excavation, disposal or treatment of contaminated soil.

Using tried and tested strategies, developed over 30 years of experience across a vast amount of brownfield sites, we are confident that our methods can make savings on asbestos disposal costs.

We use our experienced watching briefs to assess soil during excavation for visible contaminants. Then, through careful segregation, stockpiling and further testing, we ensure only the minimum volume of soil will need to be disposed of reducing the impact on landfill, the project carbon footprint and help deliver a more sustainable construction process.

Additional Information

Guidance from CL:AIRE group called CAR-SOIL. explains clearly how to assess and manage the risks in situations where there is a potential of asbestos-contaminated land.

Where the work involved to remove the asbestos is a licensed activity (click here to view relevant section), you must engage a fully licensed asbestos contractor to carry out the work who will submit a notification to the HSE at least 14 days prior to work taking place - this is required by law.

Land Remediation Relief

The government has in place a large tax incentive for land remediation (click here to see further information). If you are a UK registered company, own the land and were not the original polluter, you may be entitled to tax relief if you are dealing with asbestos-contaminated land, soil or waste. The tax relief can be set against the company’s taxable profits up to 150%. Please contact us for further details.
